Introduction
Contamination of drinking water with heavy metals is a major concern for water quality and a serious threat to the health of many people in terms of the likelihood of contaminated water related disease. this study aimed to determine the carcinogenic and non- carcinogenic risk of heavy metals in drinking water distribution network of zabol city.
Materials and Methods
In This cross-sectional study, samples were collected from different points of urban drinking water network according to the standard methods in Winter 2019 and were tested by ICP-MS. health risk assessment is done using EPA and the related calculations through the formulation of excel software.
Results
The mean concentrations of arsenic and cadmium was higher than that of the standards. The Hazard Quotient of non-carcinogenic diseases (HQ metals) in the adult group As>Cd>Zn>Cr>Fe>Mn>Cu>Ni>Pb and in the children group As>Cd>Cu>Zn>Cr>Pb>Fe>Mn>Ni was obtained. hazard index (HI) was greater than 1 and 9.62 for children and 4.12 for adults. The total carcinogenic risk (CR) was 1.79×10-3 and the possible carcinogenic risk levels were obtained for As>Cd>Cr and It was ranked seventh of the risk which is the highest risk level.
Conclusion
The results of this study show the existence of a significant risk of incidence of non- cancerous diseases as well as a very high risk for cancer diseases as a result of prolonged exposure for the local population (especially children).
